The Smart Alternative to Driving

College, and all that comes with it, is a rite of passage that young adults get four years to experience. Though only about one-fourth of the students are twenty-one years old or over, the majority of the students still consume alcoholic beverages. On college or university campuses, such activities are expected. Because such actions are expected, anticipated, and somewhat allowed, students have certain safeties.

Many newly graduated persons still live a lifestyle similar to that of a college student-go out at least three nights a week, drink heavily, eat poorly, and get very little sleep. Parties are usually on campus where the majority of students live, no one has to drive to or from the festivities, which keeps everyone safe from drunk driving. Once young adults graduate from college and move away, partying may become more of an issue. They have to face a new challenge, however, the difficulty of transportation. People’s friends move to different parts of the area, and no one is within (safe) walking distance anymore.

Even when people do not intentionally drive under the influence, it is far too easy to have one too many drinks without realizing it and then get behind the wheel of a car. Law enforcement agencies have been cracking down on DUIs recently in attempts to discourage them, so everyone now must be incredibly careful and precautious.

An alternative to driving that many people have started adopting is the party bus or trolley service to cart them around for a whole day or night. When I say “trolley,” I do not mean the type of streetcar that is found on the streets of San Francisco-at least, not the exact kind that runs on tracks and allows people to jump off and on quickly. I have seen many modified trolleys around Pittsburgh that easily (and safely) transport large groups of people. Though many groups do this sort of thing for special occasions, like weddings or bachelor(ette) parties, I have heard of people getting a group of friends together, everyone pitching in for the party bus, and enjoying a guilt-free, safe evening.
